Kevin and I were discussing that we should have a thread for cars that have surprisingly excessive tailpipe emissions.
Spotted this morning: a 2005-ish BMW 645i with blue smoke coming from the tailpipe.
Visible Tailpipe Emissions Thread of Shame
Re: Visible Tailpipe Emissions Thread of Shame
And here's the real deal: excessive tailpipe emissions, in 2016, are ANY tailpipe emissions. I wish we had this thread years ago as I have seen my share of sad examples.Bob wrote:Kevin and I were discussing that we should have a thread for cars that have surprisingly excessive tailpipe emissions.

00-05 W-Body Impala spotted this morning on the way to work. Copious amounts of white smoke coming from the tailpipe while accelerating.
Re: Visible Tailpipe Emissions Thread of Shame
Now that is probably coolant. 3400 and also the 3800 both suffered the intake gasket/manifold issue and that one was probably experiencing that. If they don't fix it, enough coolant will get into the sump and it will toast all of the bearings.
Re: Visible Tailpipe Emissions Thread of Shame
Does it count as shameful when it's on purpose?
If so, then I offer modified Dodge diesel pickup trucks. Black smoke that hip owners seem to call "rolling coal.."
Sure, it's kinda cool. But it cant be good for anyone or anything!
Unless it's done while buring biodiesel. Then it's always good for everyone and everything.

Re: Visible Tailpipe Emissions Thread of Shame
Yeah. Rolling coal is dumb and does put out a ridiculous amount of particulate. For all I know it also puts out a huge amount of NOx which is bad.
Re: Visible Tailpipe Emissions Thread of Shame
Why do diesel truck owners always want to roll coal on my Prius?
Re: Visible Tailpipe Emissions Thread of Shame
2001-ish Accord Coupe. Lots of mostly whitish smoke under acceleration.
Re: Visible Tailpipe Emissions Thread of Shame
Maybe the heat down there is more taxing...
I rarely see visible emissions up here.
