I am watching the SS, but it seems like they are holding their value too well. As a percentage of original MSRP, the 2014 SSs are holding their value much better than the 2014 V-sports. I blame the enthusiasts that all know about the SS and the very limited supply. I think the SS will probably be more reliable over time, but it lacks a little bit of the luxury stuff and premium feel that would be fun to have in the V-sport. It seems like the V-sport values are falling so quickly that it could soon become a very compelling choice.

The other interesting thing is how similar they are in terms of performance:

V-Sport:
0-60: 4.4
5-60: 4.8
0-100: 10.5
1/4 mile: 12.9 @ 111
70-0: 149 ft
skidpad: 0.97g

SS:
0-60: 4.5
5-60: 5.1
0-100: 10.5
1/4 mile: 12.9 @ 111
70-0: 153 ft
skidpad: 0.95g

These cars are virtually tied in every performance metric. One thing I found interesting and encouraging is that the V-sport's 5-60 was better than the SS and also didn't lose much relative to the 0-60. This speaks to a relatively lag free powertrain (and probably lower gearing in the 8 speed auto vs the 6 speed auto in the SS).

Yes. I have mentioned that a time or two.

New for new, the SS is the bargain. Used, it is starting to become the reverse.

I would say it is the 8-speed auto that really helps. It's kind of crazy to see a 3.6L TT V6 outrun an LS3 powered vehicle from 5-60 when they have the same power to weight. Although honestly, even that is so damn close that it's probably about the same.

And may I just also say, BOTH of those cars are extremely good cars to drive and are also very capable in the numbers department. Ford offers nothing comparable. Between the Charger and 300C you could somewhat mimic the two cars but they are heavier and won't have the same finesse.

Slight price drop on this ATS (down to 23k): http://charlotte.craigslist.org/cto/5673596676.html

How come you haven't driven that? Because you don't want to pay $23k when you think a V-sport will be $23k in 2 years?

That is part of it, but probably the main reason is that I have no approval at home for another car purchase now. Normally, I'm not one to delay car purchases because there might be something better or cheaper in the future (this is always true), but in this case I am trying to look for the benefit of delaying because I have no other choice. But yes, I am hopeful that a good Vsport will be $23k in 2 years. Also, I concerned the ATS's back seat is too small.

I just think because it is still on your list and potentially addresses most of your requirements, you should still check this car out. Plus, you just haven't driven one. Nothing stopping you from being honest with the guy. I'd see if he's reasonable and willing to talk a little, tell him your situation (wondering if the V-sport will suit better but since this is available now, you would like to see how it drives, check out the back seat, etc.) and just go look at it. I wouldn't pretend you are 100% looking for an ATS right now.

Yeah, if I was 100% in on the ATS, this would certainly be on my radar. It's probably worth a look. I kind of feel bad wasting a private seller's time, but if I am honest, I guess I won't feel that bad. I could always go to CarMax, but their test drive is pretty short.

It seems like any time there's a V2 for under $30k, there are some stories involved. This one is no exception. Also, I am not sure how I feel about buying a car with Mickey Thompsons on it. That's a sign of a hard life.

Mostly I think the story is fine. MTs does indicate some hard launches although that may not be a problem in and of itself. All I'd be concerned with is the health of the blower. Who knows, maybe it started rattling and he's like...maybe I should just dump this and move on to my next thing. If not, it's not a bad buy at all.

You could buy it if you want to make your dad extremely nervous.
