His rant on ignition timing is right on. The godfathers of GM tuning said the same thing.

His comment on boost pressure equals intake restriction is also bang on.

Other random points that I enjoyed, and recall:
- People don't understand how much like 490 rwhp really is. People drive his truck, or are driven in it, and are like "man what does this have, like 1,600 hp?" People have no concept of how much power it takes to go fast or have fun. It doesn't take 1,600 hp.
- Related note: most people commenting on this probably couldn't do more than lay rubber for 1000 feet, right into a tree. That was funny.
- Don't tune everything to the ragged edge. Don't assume that more spark advance is better. Don't use meth injection as a crutch for dangerously lean AFRs to get that last tenth, if you are building a street car.
- You can slap together an LQ4 and run it at like 6-8 psi and get like 500 rwhp all day long, with plenty of safety margin. That isn't even pushing it. So I'm thinking...why isn't that in my Caprice? I could go buy an LQ4, swap the cam and valve springs...turbo plumbing will take a while even if I copy someone. And 4L80-E requires some massaging of the trans tunnel. Plus a new driveshaft. Little details that need to be figured out. Cost isn't the hurdle.

1600 hp is what you need to get into the 6's/7's depending on weight.

We have been asking you that for years, you just weren't listening.

I actually said that exact statement to Kevin today about us all doing our own car show with projects and stupid 300,000 mile donuts. I am sure youtube has seen worse.

Aftermath:

She blowed up good. He thinks just good old fashioned bad detonation from having too much boost for the octane plus I'm sure it also went lean.

The way this begins is classic Sloppy snark. Rod bolts? Fine. Bearings? Fine. He just detonated the fuck out of it.

Has an 04 donor van already:

He's getting a little less Sloppy, little by little. Swapped to a set of low mile lifters to hopefully cure the intermittent lifter noise he said he had on the last engine.
And more significantly, he is talking about ring end gap. This thing even at 250k is very tight so he will be measuring that and potentially making adjustments to help it live on pump gas. This is a trick I learned about years ago so it is interesting to see him discuss it.

Sloppy ring end gap measuring:

Said these were surprisingly tight. For a turbo application, that is a problem. Says 0.030" is a good target.
This engine he's using was neglected as well. Oil rings were totally gunked up. Still has the cross hatch on the cylinders after 250k though, because LS.
