R/T: 2003 BMW M5 vs 2015 Chevrolet SS

Interesting article. Most of it makes sense. I question the part where they referred to the MR suspension in the SS as being "made of granite." There's just no way.

The SS tested at 0.97G on the skidpad!

Also, just a tick faster than the BMW.

Oh yes... I love this phenomenon.
German import with clean simple styling?

It's timeless and classic.

Asian or American with clean simple styling?

It's bland and boring.

Proceed with the hilarity.

I think that's part of the appeal, a plain-ish looking car with great proportions. Audi does the same thing with great success, and I think GM did an awesome job with the SS. I wouldn't hate less chrome, but it seems to work to really identify it as an American car.
This is also a common issue with the Germans- all the sedans look like the base compact sedan.
Anybody that claims that gets dog-piled for lacking the eyesight to see the nuances....
And let's be honest, the SS is clearly NOT a Malibu.
Do you really have trouble with this?

Lest we forget, here is a Malibu:

And the 2015 SS:

Maybe I need to make a thread showing how most other car models share a likeness up and down the range.

Regarding German car maintenance:
Repair costs on this car are nominal compared to pretty much anything in its class. After spending just under $600 for a BATTERY CHANGE on my BMW I definitely am more sensitive to maintenance and repair costs.

An E63 AMG might be an awesome alternative and a used version similarly priced, but I guarantee even my pocketbook would feel some major pains if that motor let go on a track day. LS3 blows? First thought would be upgraded crate motor and I'd have a host of reasonably priced sources to shop from.
$600 for a battery change? How? Did they change it 4 times??
Wait for it...
If it's like my last 335i the car has to be programmed to recognize the new battery. I had the same problem with a dead battery and decided to change it my self and the car would still not start because the dealer needs to let the ECU know the car has a new battery. I had to have it towed to the dealer and when all was done nearly 250 bucks.

Well, that's one way to guarantee revenue from battery replacement for dealers...

Even though the SS is a new car, you have all the LS aftermarket stuff ready to go, particularly because the LS3 has been around for a while.

This car sounds like the drag strip. I'd want it toned down a bit, and I think the idle was intentionally tuned to be lopey, but this is cool.

I'm so glad the idiot troll has spoken.

Because guess what?

I just happened to drive one, with 6MT and magneride this afternoon. You could not be farther from the truth. Have fun jerking off to your crappy little VWs, or whatever you fawn over. You don't have a clue as to what a real vehicle can be.

For the actual members in this thread reading this - I'm really serious, I just drove one. Please, do yourself a favor and do so if any 6MTs are in your area. It's a fantastic car. Steering is precise, interior is plush, power EVERYWHERE in the rev range. The only problem is, now I can't come up with any excuses for not buying one.
Of course it was awesome.

And the best part? It's not nearly as big as I thought it would be. It's only 4 inches longer than my wife's Mazda6. Definitely doesn't feel like a 4,000 lb car when going around turns, either.
Do want.
