Can't believe I never chimed in on this.

As a update, the security researchers reported the vulnerability and Chrysler initially dragged its feet, only issuing a patch that the customer had to manually install. They've since reconsidered and have issued a recall to get people into the dealer to do it. Turns out normal people don't follow security news to have heard about it nor do they know how to load a patch onto a USB thumb drive from the Internet and load it into their car.

Sprint was the network provider for nearly all the vehicles in the US that had this system and in response to the initial disclosure, they blocked access to the open port through their network. This made triggering the exploit via the Internet impossible. Hooray for Sprint?

I have a roadmaster wagon. I could load thousands of usb sticks into my car with minimal impact on performance!
