A neighbor down the street from us when I was a kid had a black ~88 Thunderbird turbo coupe. I thought it was pretty cool. The comments about the engine really annoyed me though. Hardly any turbo lag? Never driven one but I don't think that was a characteristic of that particular engine.

Also, look at the Mustang. Handling sucked (even then) but I admit that interior was more clean and European than what GM was offering.

You should drive one. They used a "tiny" T3 turbo. When coupled with a "large" 2.3L engine, there was hardly any turbo lag. Since the engine's max speed was only 5K RPM, the small turbo wouldn't feel restrictive at 15psi either, so the power delivery was very linear (for a turbo car).
