First instrumented test of a 300 with the Hemi and ZF8HP.
I actually really like this. It has more presence than a Chevy SS, but, I still know that the SS is the better driver, probably by a lot.
The SS is also quite a bit faster, and $4-5k more money.
For perspective, though, this 300 runs the 1/4 in 13.9 @ 104, which is only a few ticks behind my CTS-V. That's kind of scary considering regular people buy the 300 with the Hemi. Progress.
C/D: 2015 Chrysler 300S V8
Re: C/D: 2015 Chrysler 300S V8
Ah.
Maybe it's not that much faster than the original.I really love this car, but Chrysler is going to have to invest a few bucks into the Hemi. This car only makes 13hp and 4lb/ft more than the Charger they tested in 2005. That iron block isn't helping out the weight problem either. Hopefully they can keep this engine relevant in the face of all the downsized turbo engines.

I hate to admit it, but the 300 is becoming one of my favorite rental cars. There is something satisfying about driving a large RWD car, particularly when I have long highway runs on my travel. With the V6 improving (now 292 HP), the V8 must also improve. I feel like the performance gap isn't as significant as it once was between the base engine and the hemi.
