Ranger power steering

It's pronounced "chassy." Brakes, suspension...things that make the car fun or a death trap

Ranger power steering

Post by kevm14 »

Made a long voyage to Lakeville in the Ranger and the power steering started to die when I was 5 minutes from home (or I noticed it then).

I think this was predicable.

It's the return hose. Finally rusted through. Ordered a GATES 358320 from RockAuto which was a whole $15.27, shipped.

Shouldn't be too bad. Just need to figure out what P/S fluid this takes.

It takes Type F (FA) ATF fluid.

New line is installed. Not too bad. Power steering is working normally.

I soaked in PB first. Next I disconnected the rubber line at the reservoir. Then I pulled back the steering shaft plastic protective cover to reveal the fitting. It took a 5/8" flare nut wrench. Naturally it did fight me. Specifically I mean that the nut was rusted to the line so they were moving together until I finally worked it free. Then it wasn't too bad.

Only took like 1/2 qt of fluid.
