Lots more info from C&D: http://www.caranddriver.com/news/2015-c ... -info-news
Key points:
- Yep, it's supercharged (an Eaton 1.7L roots blower)
- The supercharger adds just 1 inch to the height of the engine (small block packaging is the best ever)
- RPO LT4
- "At least" 625 hp and 635 lb-ft. For reference, the LS9 in the ZR1 has 638 hp and 602 lb-ft, with an Eaton 2.3L roots blower, so the LT4 makes about as much power and more torque, with less blower. If watch this video, you'll hear a powertrain guy talk about some of the optimization they did with the new blower, to improve efficiency: http://www.caranddriver.com/features/20 ... e-it-video
- 10.1:1 compression
- Direct injection (as expected)
- Variable valve timing and cylinder deactivation (NOT expected - this goddamn car might just get 30 mpg highway....jesus christ)
- For the first time ever, the targa roof comes to the Z06
- 7-speed manual (also available on the regular Stingray)
- For the first time ever, an 8-speed automatic is going to be available (the 8L90 - I expect to hear 16 year olds on the internet insist on a dual clutch transmission, 'cause video games?)
- There are three aero packages available (whew)
- Front and rear tire sizes are identical to the C6 ZR1
From C&D:The aluminum structure of the standard Stingray is used in the Z06 and will be essentially unchanged for C7.R duty. Chevy is claiming that the Z06 and C7.R were developed together. When equipped with the Z07 performance package, Chevy claims that the new Z06 has been recording lap times that are faster than their times for the outgoing Corvette ZR1.
Overall, GM says that the Z06 with the Z07 package whips up (or down?) the most downforce of any production car it’s ever tested—GM-made or otherwise. How much downforce does it make? Chevy’s not saying yet, but assured us that there’s so much of it that the C7.R team for the first time ever didn’t need to add any for the race car; the team instead spent its wind-tunnel time paring back drag.
Talk about race pedigree....Corvette group steps it up again. Very impressive.
Fun fact: The standard Z06 brakes (as opposed to the upgraded Z07 carbon ceramic brakes, which are from the C6 ZR1) use a 14.4" x 1" rotor at the rear. That is the same size rotor on the rear of my CTS-V (well, mine are 1.1" wide), as well as the rear of the V2 (1.1" here, too). However, the V1 uses 6-lug and the hub diameter is different so the actual rotor is not interchangeable. But the CTS-V2 rotor may be the same. Unless the Z06 really is 1" wide. Then nevermind all that.
