So basically twice the cost of the cheapest C5 Z06. Given the crusty ride quality of the early C6 Z06s, I think the C5 Z06 is the preferable purchase, though the LS7 sure is awesome. The 04 got revised shock valving for more compliance while maintaining damping control, so that's always a good upgrade for the 01-03 cars.
With the C6 Z06, maybe aftermarket shocks can help the non-MR shock cars. But at least from the factory, imo, the C6 Z06 isn't really desirable as an actual street driven vehicle without the MR shocks.
While the performance of the C5 Z06 is MORE than adequate for the street (mid 12s @ 113-116 depending on if you have an 01 or 02-04), the C6 really takes it to the next level with mid-11s @ 125. So yeah.
But let's get a second opinion on the ride:
I guess the lesson to the internet is, don't get your car facts, and especially Corvette facts, from Top Gear. Ok, it rides harshly compared to what, exactly? My 1998 rode rougher then a new base C6 I road tested in the Summer of 2004, and my C5 was not a bad ride. My C6 Z06 rides about like my old 98 C5. I've driven all over the eastern half of the US in my Z06(drove all over the western half in my C5) and the Z06 suspension is not as bad as people that have never driven a Z06, make it out to be. I've never felt the need to trade my Z06 in on one with F55. No need to fix what isn't broken.
