2017 Camaro 1LE

Wow
The 2016 Camaro SS 1LE sets the new benchmark for the segment, lapping the Big Willow track at Willow Springs three seconds faster than the standard Camaro SS.”
Bonus: V6 1LE!

I continue to predict that the Camaro will legitimize the V6 pony car. Even if it is the only one that is actually good.
In our development tests, the V6 Camaro 1LE delivers lap times comparable with the previous-gen V8

I was happy to see 1LE is available on the V6 Camaro. For the record, I think the V6 Mustang isn't bad, but Ford made a mistake slotting it below the Ecoboost and thus relegating it to rental fleets.

Really not understanding why no one has compared the GT350 to the Camaro SS. I think they will be close. And the 1LE may also be close to the R.

Interesting that this 1LE doesn't get trans gear or rear end gear changes. The last 1LE was faster than the SS along with way better handling. I am sure this will be awesome, I wonder why they left the gearing the same this time around.

Also, according to Car and Driver, GM can't win. They bitch that the ATS-V didn't have the 8, but talk about how awesome the Camaro V6 is, on the same platform. In what world did a Cadillac command more performance than a Camaro? According to them, the V6 Camaro is "good enough", but the Turbo V6 ATS-V on the same chassis isn't. WTF?

I'd argue that it doesn't need them and they'd just add cost. The 1LE isn't supposed to be faster in a straight line. The gearing change would be for track reasons, not drag racing reasons.

In some ways it is a huge complement to the small block that Cadillac offers a very competitive twin turbo V6, and the autorags are like "but I want my pushrod V8."

I think the issue with the TT V6 is that it has no personality and they know GM already makes engines at that power level that DO have personality.

At the 335hp level, the Camaro V6 is fine and it's not like they are going to be like "GM needs a 4.0L pushrod V8 instead of this DOHC V6."

Also, the V6 1LE is reported to be 3,4xx lbs. That would promote some very interesting comparisons.

Furthermore, this goes in the right direction of GM offering very high performing vehicles (that don't need to run 12s) for less than the Camaro SS.

Additional trivia: 1LE is only available on the 1SS, not the 2SS. Probably not a big deal. Also it is manual-only.

Camaro6 discussion:
Why are you guys complaining about it being a 1ss and only manual? Its a track car, its supposed to be a no frills car!
Because like always, people constantly whine and moan about how GM no longer sells stripper cars and how they would totally buy a no-frills track car with crank windows and no A/C, but once GM actually does offer something along those lines, they whine and moan about how GM didn't throw in a coffee maker and Xbox.
You can never, ever go by the internet when determining what market direction a company should go with a car or trim level. If the conversation starts with "a lot of people are saying," then that's not something GM can translate into any kind of reliable sale. That's just the way it is.
