So I guess there is a Z/28 after all? That's pretty cool. I think the ZL1 will pretty much match GT350R performance. And in case it doesn't have enough race car credibility, there will be the Z/28.
The engine discussion is interesting. We don't expect a gen 5 LS7. They also said probably not the LT4, as that is going in the ZL1. They said a naturally aspirated 6.2L is likely. So...this would be the first application of a higher performance LT1-derived engine. I guess this would be the replacement for the LS7. Since the Corvette is at 460 hp, it should not be hard to eclipse the 505 hp of the old LS7. I look forward to this engine. I don't know what the RPO code would be...LT something I guess. LT2? LT4 would have made sense but that is already in use (that should have been the LT9 maybe).
Hopefully they can outfit the Z/28 with a lightweight flywheel because the free-revving nature of the Voodoo is one of the many compelling things about it.
Finally, the aero. You can tell we are at peak suspension and peak tire. So the next logical step is to add down force. The Colin Chapman approach would also help.
6th gen Z/28 spied on the 'Ring
Re: 6th gen Z/28 spied on the 'Ring
No. Just no.
Partial redemption for reference to 89 TTA...I don't think it will be a smallblock 6.2 or an improved version of the old LS7. Is getting more than 500hp possible with either engines?
I'm not even sure it will be a V8. What choices does GM have for such an engine? I mean, I am sure there is a new V8-engine program underway for Cadillac and the C8 Corvette, but that engine will NOT be first appearing in a Camaro.
I am going to go with a TT V6, tuned to maybe 540 hp or something. (The 1989 Trans Am 20th Anniversary used a TT 3.8L V6 from the GNX so it has been done before.)

Capability wise, I still think the base SS (or whatever performance options that may be available that help) is a good match for the regular GT350.
And I still think the 1LE is going to get damn close to the R, especially if the tires are in the same class. And if that's the case, I don't see how the ZL1 wouldn't actually be superior. Hopefully the Z/28, too.
Again, ALL of the Alpha Camaros are great to drive. Only the GT350 (and really, the R) is the Mustang that is magical.

The expected power level is perfect. Perfect competitor to the GT350 and R. Perfectly above the old Z/28. Perfectly below the ZL1 and Z06. Make it! Come on LT7....and put that in an ATS, call it the ATS-V Plus or whatever.
