I think this article adequately describes what it's like to have a car that drives better than the numbers would suggest.
C&D: 2007 Lotus Elise - Archived Road Test
Re: C&D: 2007 Lotus Elise - Archived Road Test
At under 2,000 lbs the Elise doesn't really need an article explaining why numbers don't always matter. The Focus RS has normal car weight and is built on a normal car platform. It's not the same thing.
Re: C&D: 2007 Lotus Elise - Archived Road Test
So this is kind of cool:
Lotus:
C/D TEST RESULTS:
Zero to 60 mph: 4.8 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 13.1 sec
Zero to 130 mph: 29.7 sec
Street start, 5-60 mph: 5.8 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 13.6 sec @ 102 mph
Braking, 70-0 mph: 162 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 1.00 g
Pony/Muscle Cars (2010/2011 era)
http://www.motortrend.com/news/2011-mus ... omparison/
SS SRT8 GT
0-30 2.0 1.9 1.7 sec
0-40 2.7 2.6 2.6
0-50 3.6 3.7 3.3
0-60 4.7 4.8 4.4
0-70 5.8 6.2 5.6
0-80 7.4 7.7 6.8
0-90 8.9 9.5 8.4
0-100 10.7 11.8 10.2
Passing, 45-65 mph 2.1 2.3 2.1
Quarter mile 13.1 sec @ 110.8 mph 13.3 sec @ 106.1 mph 12.7 sec @ 111.3 mph
Braking, 60-0 mph 108 ft 113 ft 104 ft
Lateral acceleration 0.92 g (avg) 0.92 g (avg) 0.97 g (avg)
MT figure eight 25.2 sec @ 0.73 g (avg) 25.7 sec @ 0.71 g (avg) 24.7 sec @ 0.77 g (avg)
Top-gear revs @ 60 mph 1450 rpm 1400 rpm 1900 rpm
So 0-60 and 1/4 were almost identical. Camaro has the edge in speed through the quarter, Elise has the grip and gas mileage and waaaayyy less weight. 25 mpg compared to like 17 I think for the Camaro.
