Lots to talk about. This test is probably more important than Lightning Lap in some ways. I prefer VIR to LS though. It is longer and I think has more variation.

With regard to the drag race...Camaro SS 1LE was the slowest car in the pack at 12.4 @ 114. But it placed 4th in BDC because of how good the chassis is.

Also, the fastest cars here are in the 10s @ 130. Which means for $47k, you can buy a used Corvette ZR1 and be right with those cars from a roll.

Maybe the real point is, for the Best Driver's Car contenders, the drag race is completely irrelevant. But they threw it in anyway.

My opinion: the 1LE is the real winner. Cheapest car here and regular enthusiasts (OK, not if you're 25) can probably afford one. The next cheapest is the GT350R. Now the GT350R is really good. I don't doubt that. If they were the same price, I think there would be no reason to get the 1LE. But they're not. The GT350R is unobtanium with a $20k higher MSRP and probably ludicrous ADM. The 1LE is probably available at MSRP and maybe even a little under.

Oh. Well then I'm glad it was the 1LE. The Grand Sport is like twice the price. But a lot higher performing.

Also notice how good the R8 did. I think it was on Sport Cup 2's, so compare results to C/D LL @ VIR and you can see how big of a difference tires make.

Speaking of the R8, that shit traps 130 and it is naturally aspirated.

Wow. The SS 1LE for 45K is better in just about every way than the Z-28.

The Italians are so....Italian.

Both Ferrari and Lamborghini are so terrified of the world’s most comprehensive driving-car competition that they’ve taken their ball and gone home. It’s not the first time they have refused to take the measure of their supercars; reconsider your declined invite next year, guys.

Although Ferrari and Lamborghini won’t play along, it’s worth noting fellow Italian Fiat had the guts to offer us a Mazda Miata, ahem, 124 Spider. Rather than letting the little Fiata go up against Godzilla, we opted to pull it out of the competition and save it for a potential minor-league Best Driver’s Car with the rest of the cars we cut from this year’s competition, which include the BMW M2, Chevrolet Camaro V-6 1LE, and Ford Focus RS. Stay tuned.

They should find a Mustang to throw in. I really don't care which one as long as it adheres to the price rules. GT Performance Pack. Or Ecoboost with whatever package. Because it is going to be severely out-classed.
