Finally someone questions the term "quality" which is always used to defend the higher priced German cars.
Depends on how you define "quality". Sure new car vs new car the BMW is going to be much nicer as far as materials, feel, and so on. But put 100k on each car and unless you happened to be a trust fund baby, watch out. Things WILL break on the BMW and they will cost a fortune to fix. It will nickel and dime you to death. Germans go by the "you gotta pay to play" mantra. They design things knowing they will break because they feel a lot of things are considered just maintaining a high performance machine. And they consider alllll their cars as the pinnacle of high performance machines, so to them the trade off is well worth it. The Chevy on the other hand will probably go 200k without many problems and the ones that do come up will be pennies on the dollar compared to the BMW. So depends, if you want a warranty queen, get the BMW and dump it after 50k, if you want something to keep 10 years and not have to take out a second mortgage to fix, get the Chevy.
And an incredibly succinct version of the above (aimed at the same person the above post was aimed at):
You're confusing perceived quality versus actual quality.

One more thing. I think the M2 is actually kind of fugly, especially from the back.

0.9 seconds isn't too much, either, when you realize the M2 is almost as fast as a Camaro SS.

Haha
What difference does price make you ask, well what if we took a ZL1 at roughly $8k more than the M2 and asked them to redo this head 2 head.

Would price matter then?
Shots fired.

They don't need to match BMW on interior quality at their price point. Despite the loss, I think this is a moral win for Chevy... When has a V6 Camaro ever been compared to any other true performance car, nevermind a BMW M car?? Just the fact that they're getting the Camaro FaceTime next to an M car is a win.
The V8 is better than the V6 as it always was. So the relative comparison, if only those two cars existed, is true as it always was. But what has changed substantially is how good they both are. Which means the V6 has been elevated to the point of being a relevant performance car, in comparison to other makes and models. That has never been the case before.

So more shots fired since nobody really cares about the M1/2:

How badly does the ZL1 1LE beat the M3/4 for less money?

The M2 was hailed by the automotive press as BMW's return to form. I don't know what the sales data shows.
