This doesn't exist...yet.
But it could. It would have a V8 with power output somewhere between the V6 and the LT1, so call it 380. GM could use the Gen V 5.3L and maybe make it a little more rev-happy to be more fitting for a car than a truck. It would be faster than the V6, sound better and drive more like a V8. But would cost less than the SS. Maybe it could use the V6 suspension or something.
Based on a little cost comparison, the Mustang, Camaro and Challenger are closer than I thought. A 1SS Camaro automatic is around $39,500. A Challenger Scat Pack (similar acceleration to the SS) is around $40k. And a Mustang GT auto is around $37,500. The Challenger R/T is around $36,000. So, this Camaro would come in around there. At which point I'd say...just save up for the SS or get one lightly used and get what you really want.
But what would be much more interesting is to offer a more basic trim level with that 5.3L (like they are doing with the trucks - I forget what they call the trim level) and sell it for...I dunno, $33k? $32k?
This may be possible and may even be something more realistic given the Gen 6's modest sales so far. It could add some interest to the lineup. And there is precedent for this. The 3rd gen had an RS V8 which used the L03 (170hp 305, TBI), and I believe they sold quite a few of those. Discuss.
Camaro RS V8
Re: Camaro RS V8
Based on the current usage of "RS" in the line, I guess this would be an LS or LT V8. RS is better.
Re: Camaro RS V8
I also think they would lock out expensive upgrades. No MR shocks for example. Probably even cloth seats and that kind of stuff.
Re: Camaro RS V8
I think a 33K Camaro would be good. Plus, these should be dirt cheap used a few years later which is even better. Imagine these as a cheap platform to throw a turbo on.
Re: Camaro RS V8
The truck trim is called Custom, which I think back in the day was a pretty base model.kevm14 wrote:But what would be much more interesting is to offer a more basic trim level with that 5.3L (like they are doing with the trucks - I forget what they call the trim level) and sell it for...I dunno, $33k? $32k?
