I saw this on my commute.

I figured maybe it was gonna be cheap. Who wants this?

Well I guess these are worth actual money.

Fun facts on the W123: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_W123

It's a 3.0L inline 5
125 hp @ 4350 rpm
181 lb-ft @ 2400 rpm

Not very exciting numbers, but these cars were under 3,600 lbs and can probably be messed with to make more power. I find them interesting and it's probably a comfortable car to drive around in. But man, $8,500? Not for a mess-around car. Though this is a particularly nice example so it does carry some inherent value in that it's not falling apart.

That is some serious money. I run Shell Rotella T synthetic in the Elise too because it's hard to find a 5w40 synthetic.

It looks like a nice, well cared for example, but way too much money as you said.

1983? Looks more like a 1982 to me.

I bet the non-turbo diesels and the gas models are muuch cheaper. Especially the ones that have not just had their horsehair replaced.

Besides, you definately want one of the less-desireable drivetrains when you're just gonna pull it and swap in an LS engine. Which would be sweet.

There is a guy at work who used to have several TD mercs, and he would run them on WVO (waste vegtable oil) or biodiesel. That's pretty cool. Sadly, there is a rumor that his wife made him give them up.

Interestingly, WVO convesions that I have seen still use some diesel on startup. They run on the diesel and circulate engine coolant through a heat exchanger in the WVO tank to de-coagulate that fuel prior to switching.
