C/D: 2015 Mustang ecoboost tested

13.9 @ 98, which may as well be identical to a 1994 Camaro Z28. Except without that awesome throttle response. Car and driver averaged 19 mpg. It's also heavier than said F-body at 3,663 lbs. In Mustang terms, it's about as fast as the last 4.6 GT, which is something.

A turbo 4 cylinder auto Mustang doesn't arouse any kind of excitement, sorry. There are too many lame bread and butter cars that are just as fast as this. A V6 Accord will walk this from a roll. As will a GTI. And probably a bunch of other stuff.

Snooze.
And yet there’s not much to complain about this EcoBoost Mustang other than it’s more expensive than the base V-6 while offering very similar performance. Also, it drones like, well, like a four-cylinder. Ford has tried to punch up the exhaust note via the stereo system, but it’s no use. This turbo four speaks with no more verve than any Audi turbo four.
And yet on paper, you get 310hp and 32mpg highway. Is that enough for these to fly off the lots?

Also, the as-tested price was $38k. No way.
We saw 19 mpg overall, and you can probably expect low-to-mid-20s if you like to use your car as anything other than a nun’s taxi. Don’t be surprised if a few C7 Corvette owners snicker at you at the car show. They can often approach 30 mpg with their cars (while driving like nuns) or match your economy while also taking a few 455-hp licks of the underhood candy

19 MPG overall isn't much better than an old LT1 F-body either.

This car is a complete waste of time and space. Coming from somebody that bought a car with manual windows and locks I know first hand that who ever buys this car will never hear the end of it from every person that they know. I can see it now. People driving a 99 Hyundai Accent will be saying: "Wait a minute. you bought a 4 cylinder Mustang??!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Please, you can't get away with buying a 6 cylinder Camaro, shit people with an automatic SS get shit for it and Ford thinks some poor bastard is gonna be proud of a 4 cylinder Mustang! I hope these things come with therapy sessions so the "proud" new owners don't kill themselves 3 days after they drive this POS off the lot and everyone tells them how stupid they are.

The even sadder part is that this is still better than half the garbage on the road today (probably not at this price, but anyway) but all it will ever be known as is the 4 banger Mustang that nobody wanted.

It will do well in markets that aren't the US and have totally ridiculous, stupid, "progressive" and ultimately misguided displacement-based vehicle taxes. As if engine displacement alone has anything to do with overall fuel economy. Because some folks that live in those countries actually think some American cars are cool, and now there is a Euro-friendly powertrain option. Sadly, this is a thing. But it shouldn't be.

http://blog.caranddriver.com/performanc ... -ecoboost/

So why would anyone buy the Ecoboost in the US? 2 mpg and a WHOLE lot of performance (and turbo lag) separates them. The Ecoboost is cheaper, I guess.

A 2011 Hyundai Sonata 2.0T traps 100mph...

People will be fooled by the window sticker and the highway number beginning with a 3. I always question why people buy Ecoboost F150s too. It seems like there is no real advantage over the V8.

Wow, I guess they really pushed the calibration to get it over the base V6 in HP (just barely, and not without de-rating the V6 a tad).
